How Child-Centered Play Therapy Works
What is Child-Centered Play Therapy?
Children learn and make sense of their world through self-directed play. CCPT is a structured, highly effective approach in which the child leads and the therapist responds with intention, trusting the child’s capacity to grow from within. In the safety of the therapeutic relationship and play environment, children can work through big feelings, difficult experiences, and behavior patterns showing up at home, school, or in relationships. Over time, they can develop greater self-understanding and more flexible ways of responding to their world. At Whole Roots, CCPT guides the entire course of treatment, giving children a consistent therapeutic experience from beginning to end.
How Do In-Home Sessions Work?
Whole Roots brings a carefully selected mobile playroom to your home, creating a consistent therapeutic space in a setting already familiar to your child. Each 45-minute session takes place in a private area, with a caregiver remaining available in the home while the child meets individually with the therapist. Regular caregiver consultations occur to provide space to discuss changes, understand the child’s process, and connect the work of therapy with everyday life. Bringing the play space to your home means one less weekly trip for your family and allows your child to receive care in a familiar environment.
Meet Courtney
Hi, I’m Courtney Taylor, LSCSW. I’m a Kansas-licensed clinical social worker specializing in Child-Centered Play Therapy with children ages three to ten. I find great joy in working with children and their families, especially in watching children come to know themselves more fully and grow into who they already are. I’m drawn to this work because play is an innate language of childhood, and I enjoy the honesty, imagination, and energy children bring into the play space.
CCPT is at the heart of my practice because it is backed by research and treats children with the respect they deserve. I continue to read, write, and learn about play therapy, and I have also taught other professionals about CCPT. I want to keep growing in this work and offer children and their families the best care I can.
